The help, encouragement and expertise I received from Dennis, Ashleigh, and Tanya has been so invaluable in getting me running again and dealing with other secondary injuries due to my poor postural alignment. Consulting with Dennis and his team, I've learned that my 12 year chronic IT-band injury was like my body's "check engine" light coming on, indicating that there was a systemic postural misalignment at the root of my re-occurring injury issues.
With Ashleigh's attention to detail and dedication we have developed a Pilate’s routine which addresses these "fundamental" misalignments. She is always interested to hear feedback on which Pilate’s movements feel more beneficial—truly listening to my body in ways that orthopedists, cortisone injections, chiropractors, and physical therapists failed to do in past attempts to treat my IT band running injury.
With Tanya's massage and muscle release knowledge, we are remedying my
secondary calf, ankle and foot weakness in the same leg with the IT-band ligament tightness.
Finally, in my other athletic pursuit of horse riding, I have felt a dramatic improvement in my ability to stay in balance with my horse by being able to anchor equal weight in my heels again and stretch more upright in my upper body (thanks to Fundamental Movement Pilates℠). The Chagrin Valley Wellness Center team has helped me regain the activity levels of my past life (collegiate runner and triathlete) which I thought I would have to GIVE UP for good. As an athlete, I can't tell you how great it feels to be able to go on a five mile run again and not be plagued with the worry of "will I have to stop?" because of my injury. It's like I've been given back my body and the runners high that all runner's chase!!
