"Postural Balancing"
Part 1 of 3
The goal behind each service at Chagrin Valley Wellness Center is based around the body’s posture. Posture is the body’s ability to maintain its normal position by using the soft tissue system to hold and move it, while it is in its proper place.
When is posture determined? At conception when the cells are united and movement at the cellular level begins. The cells create movement by pulsating and expanding until they separate and begin the duplication process. In bred in the cell is a genetic pattern of growth that it follows while fully developing. It is during this time that the body’s diaphragm system is developed and formulated. It is the posture of our diaphragms which position the body to function correctly.
The human posture has evolved to allow us to become bipedal, or move on two extremities. This internal posture is made up of a series of curvatures, that when working together, permit us to move with little or no discomfort. The curves that are normally found to be dysfunctional and are the ones that create discomfort are the neck and low back. These curves are where the majority of bulging or herniated discs are found and where much of the radiating pain in the extremities begins.
This series of articles will dissect the body’s posture and explain the process of analysis that the Massotherapists at this center practice. It will explain why many times the therapist needs to balance the entire posture to allow the process to work. It is in Postural Balancing that the artist reshapes the soft tissue to bring about a balance to the individual that is being worked with.
Our goal is to create a Posture or Structure that is able to perform movement relatively pain free. The formula of Function equals Movement, Movement reveals Posture, and Posture determines Movement is how we evaluate and treat each and every person that comes to this facility. The practice of treating a symptom is not our focus; our focus is the individual that comes to us with a symptom of discomfort.
