All Movements Begin & End with Breath

by Sean Lyons

Any CVWC Pilates student will tell you the first thing they learned in the studio was "how to breathe".  Many of you are nodding your heads as you read this, while others may be thinking, "what do you mean...learn how to breathe?!"

Yes, we all learn and practice proper breathing. The governing dynamics, of the trillions of movements within our bodies, is the Network of Diaphragms or NOD©. The NOD© is the precursor for movement, it’s the “chain of events” of breathing.  Breathing is an inherently intricate and harmonious dance of our five diaphragms and their authoritative muscles.  The effectiveness of our movements mirrors the efficiency of our breath.  All of our movements begin and end with our breath.

The goal of CVWC's Functional Movement with Pilates Machines is to redefine our movement patterns in the studio, to be efficient, correct and stabilizing. By understanding and practicing proper breathing and body mechanics in our Pilates Studio, you will develop efficient behavioral habits that not only promote moving with less or no discomfort, but also enhance your daily performance and sustain longevity. Therefore, learning how to breathe properly is the logical first step towards learning how to move properly.
